From a one-off blockage to ongoing maintenance — here's what I offer, how it works, and what to expect.
The gold-standard method for ear wax removal. A gentle suction device removes blockage under direct visualisation — no water, no syringing.
Microsuction is widely considered the safest, most controlled way to remove excessive ear wax. Because I can see exactly what I'm doing through magnification at every moment, the procedure is precise, predictable, and well-tolerated even by patients who have struggled with other methods.
A thorough otoscopic examination to understand what's actually going on — before any treatment is even considered.
Many people arrive convinced they have wax build-up when the real cause is something else entirely: irritation, infection, eczema, foreign body, or the natural shape of the ear canal. A proper diagnostic appointment gives you clarity, and gives me the information I need to recommend the right course of action — which may not always involve treatment from me.
Routine ear maintenance for those prone to wax build-up, hearing aid users, or anyone who simply wants healthy ears.
Some people produce more wax than others, some have ear canals shaped in a way that holds onto it, and hearing aid users have an additional reason to keep ears clear. Regular hygiene appointments — typically every six to twelve months — keep things on top of themselves rather than waiting for a problem to develop.
For patients who are housebound, have limited mobility, or simply prefer to be seen in the comfort of their own home.
I bring all the equipment I need to deliver a full clinical service in your own surroundings. Home visits are particularly valuable for older patients, those recovering from surgery or illness, and patients with anxiety around clinical environments. I cover most of Somerset and adjacent areas — please call to confirm your postcode.
I see patients from across the county at clinic, and travel for home visits throughout Somerset and adjoining areas. Common locations include:

If your question isn't answered here, please get in touch — I'd rather you ask than worry.
No. You'll hear the suction — it sounds like a small vacuum cleaner held near your ear — but the procedure itself shouldn't be painful. If anything ever feels uncomfortable, I stop immediately.
It's helpful but not essential. A few days of olive oil or sodium bicarbonate drops can soften wax and make removal faster. I'll advise you when you book.
Typically 20 to 40 minutes depending on what we find. I never rush — you get the time the work needs.
I'm happy to discuss specific cases over the phone. Please call before booking so I can advise on suitability.
If I find anything that requires further investigation — infection, perforation, or anything unusual — I'll explain clearly and recommend referral to your GP or an ENT specialist.
Call, email or send a message — I aim to respond the same working day.
